Photo 31 Jan 2 notes The ‘Heart’ of the Grand Canyon (NASA, International Space Station, 01/19/12) by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center on Flickr.Editor’s note: This is one of a series of incredible images that astronaut Don Pettit captured over the Grand Canyon. I don’t want to poach this content, so I urge you to take a moment to look at his blog — it is WELL worth your time! blogs.nasa.gov/cm/blog/letters/posts/post_1326990884518.html
The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is simply amazing when viewed from an orbital perspective. Sometimes your brain can play little tricks. Under some lighting conditions the Grand Canyon does not look like a canyon at all. Instead, all you see are the arteries on a giant heart, as if someone were performing open heart surgery on Mother Earth, as in this image.
