Morse Wildlife Preserve, Graham, Washington
While banding in the Pacific Northwest, you sometimes hear stories about someone catching THE bird: a Pileated Woodpecker. I band with the Puget Sound Bird Observatory, and they’ve been banding at the same two sites for over 15 years, and they’d only caught one Pileated until today - when we caught the second one that they’ve ever caught. SUCH a cool catch, which made for a very fun and exciting banding day.

One of the Eastern birds I really miss. Not uncommon in the Mid-Atlantic, but always dramatic to see.
